Not only is whittling fun it also has some great benefits. It is awesome to see the children’s confidence grow as they become more skilled with the knife. The excitement and motivation of using the knife helps the children persevere to keep trying, it really isn’t as easy as some people make it look. That’s down to practise. This afternoon we were chatting as we whittled and the conversation came around to how and why some if their role play games end in disagreements and the fun can get spoilt. By working out the reasons they were able to talk about and come up with solutions. They did this by considering how each other felt about the situation. Wuite quickly the knifes were put safely away and off they went playing and laughing together!
